I have become convinced that I may have an answer to the info I find about the wife of John S. Mayfield in the Giles County TN area.- various spellings ( Airpaticia, Arpocnia, Arpatia). I have the family Bible of John R. Bailey, b 1799 in GA . John R. Bailey lived in the Northwest section of Coffee County , TN that was formerly Bedford County about 50 miles from Giles County. In this Bible there are about 50 items including family birth and death dates, items of the local Noah ,TN area, etc. One of the notations is as follows: "30 July 1860 my sister ARpasha MAYFEAH ( Mayfield ? , my guess) departed this life "This is the exact date of death as shown on the inscription of the stone in Mt Moriah Cem in your Giles County cemetery pages for Arpatia D. Mayfield. I conclude that Arpatia was a Bailey originally. I will certify the above info to any searcher of this Mayfield line. |
