John Henderson

The following dialog is about my gg grandfather, his family and brothers who for a few years lived in Giles Co., TN between 1816-1818. This was John Henderson (b. 1 Jul 1784 in Albemarle Co., VA) and his wife Nancy Rucker (b. 1 Sep 1789 in Madison Co.,KY) who were m. in Boone Co., KY on 2 Sep 1810.

His children: Elizabeth Henderson b. 13 Dec 1811 location (KY?)
Thomas Henderson b. 24 Jun 1813 location ?
Robert Henderson b. 12 Oct 1815 location about 1/2 mile N of Gallatin, TN at the home of Charles Henderson (brother of John), who lived in Gallatin.
Reuben Henderson b. 8 Feb 1818 in Giles Co., TN
William Henderson b. 20 Oct 1820 in Lawrence Co., AL (My great grandfather).

In 1823 Nancy Rucker Henderson died and the location of burial is not known. I have been unsuccessful in research of Lawrence Co., AL, where she is thought to have died, to find any record. She could be buried in Giles Co., TN. Family records indicate that John
Henderson, after the death of Nancy, moved his family north to Mt.Sterling, KY, a short time later to Grant Co., KY and in 1830 on to a farm near Mooresville, IN where he lived until he died 31 May 1844.

The brother of John Henderson, William Bassnett Henderson, who according to family record, died at his brother's home near Elkton, TN was b. 1786 in VA and m. a Miss Johnson in Scott Co., KY. He practiced medicine in Petersburg, VA and SC. They had one child, Adaline Henderson who m. a Spellman or Seillman and settled in Bourbon Co., KY.

A quote from EARLY HISTORY OF GILES COUNTY page 36, sec.11: "There were no settlers for six miles in a North-east direction to Jno. Henderson and James S. Haynes; they came about the same time Gordon did, and settled the places long known by their names near Cornersville." "James S. Haynes and his father, John Haynes, old William Henderson, and his brother, John Henderson, and Jno. Andrews were among the first settlers in the neighborhood of Cornersville and came about the same time Gordon did." Whether this is my John Henderson and the William referred to is Dr. Wm Bassnett Henderson, I do not know, but would like to find out.

Other records to identify this John Henderson are:
- Census 1820 Lawrence Co., AL matches his family less my great grandfather Wm Henderson who was not born until Oct.
- Land records in Lawrence Co., AL refer to "John Henderson from TN". Also several land records also include his father-in-law, Reuben Rucker.

I would request any reference to the above in order to verify and/or fill in the unknown about any of this family. Thanks,
