Tilman (or Tillman) Holland

"Tillmon Horne Holland was born in Anderson County, SC. This county was formerly known as Abbeville District. It was with his father [Thomas] that he migrated to Madison County, first a part of the Mississippi Territory, then later the state of Alabama. It was in Limestone County that his father finally settled. It was in 1850 that Tillmon filed for a bounty claim for services rendered in the War of 1812. In a claim he stated the following: Tillmon Holland who was a Private in the company command by Captain William Johnson in the regiment of infantry command[ed] by Captain William Johnson in the regiment of infantry command by Colkonel Perkins in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of Jun 1812 that he volunteered at Huntsville then the Mississippi Territory in the county of Madison on or about the 1st day of September A.D. 1814 for the term of six months and continued in active service in said war for the term of seven months and was honorably discharged at Huntsville on the 20 day of April AD 1815...He makes the acclamation for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty land which he may be entitled under the act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the United States...

He was allowed the bounty land but later sold it. In 1871 he applied for a Pension. He was now 77 1/2 years old and a widower living in Giles COunty, Tennessee. A war of 1812 claim report states that Tillmon enlisted September 29, 1814 and was discharged 25 April 1815. A report from the Third Auditor shows that Tillmon Holland served in Captain William Johnson's Co., Mississippi militia for 209 days. He was a Private in the Regiment of infantry command by Colonel Perkins. He susequently recieved a Pension, but died in Elkton Giles County, Tennessee, 29 Mar, 1974.

As a young man of 20 Tillmon entered the service of his country. Released from duty and discharged at age 22, he married a year later. On 8 Sep 1816 he married Tabitha Robertson (or Robinson) the daughter of Elizabeth C. Litton and Samuel Robinson. She had been born in South Carolian 29 Nov. 1794. They married in Limestone Co., AL. (Limestone became a county in 1818, from the Cherokee and Chickasaw Cession 1816) where they lived about three years. It was there that their first two children were born. Tillmon and Tabitha then moved to Giles County, Tennessee. Tillmon died 29 Mar 1874 in Elkton, Giles County, Tennessee. Tabitha died 25 Sep 1866. Tillman's son Tillman (or Tilman) Holland served in the CSA, was promoted to Lietenant in Roddy's Cavalry in Feb. 1863. He resided in Limestone County, AL.
