I C. W. H. Biles for deed in consideration of one dollar to me paid and for the further consideration hereinafter named have this day bargained and mortgaged and do hereby transfer and convey to S.A. Hastings all my right-title and interest in and to a certain portion of land that I am now living on in Giles County State of Tennessee towit: Bordered on the north by Charles Nelson W. by J. P. Tate S. by J. G. Hastings E by Charles Nelson containing twenty seven acres more or less which is my entire farm. To have and to hold the servants to the said S. A. Hasting her heirs and assigns forever, and I Susan Biles wife of the said C. W. H. Biles do hereby join in this deed and do waive and relinquish to the said S.A. Hastings all my right title and interest in and to said land under the home deed law or other wise this grant is intended as security for the payment of a note which I have this day mailed to the said S. A. Hasting calling for one hundred dollars due the twenty-fifth day of December Eighteen Hundred and Eighty Nine bearing interest –from date of note and mortgage.

If payment is duly made on said note will render this conveyance void and if any default shall be made in the payment of the principle and interest above-mentioned, then the said S. A. Hastings or her executor, assignee or administrator are hereby by authorized to sell the premises above granted, or so much thereof as will be necessary to satisfy the amount then due with the cost and expenses allowed by law. In witness whereof we hereunto affix our hand and seal this Dec. 19, 1888.

Hastings or her executor, assignee or administrator are hereby authorized to sell the premises above granted or so much thereof as will necessary to satisfy the account then due with the cost and expenses allowed by law. Personally appeared before me Cleary Gilbert, a Notary Public for said county, C. W. H. Biles the bargainer of the written deed with whom I am personally acquainted, he acknowledges he executed it for the purposes therein contained. And also appeared S. R. L. Biles wife of the C.W. H. Biles having appeared before me privately and apart from her husband the said C. W. H. Biles. She acknowledged the execution of the said deed to have been done by her freely, voluntarily and understandingly, without compulsion or restraint of her said husband and for the purposes therein expressed.
