Elizabeth "Betsy" Reed Gilbert d/o Thomas and Amy Cox Reed b. 10/30/1822 d. 9/21/1876 Mrs. Elizabeth Gilbert, nee Reed, was born Oct. 30, 1822; born again, under the ministry of the Rev. R. L. Fagan, and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South, in September 1862. She was the wife of Carey Gilbert, Esq. of Poplar Hill, Giles County, Tenn. On the 21st of the present month she died at her home. Caressed and cared for by her family and friends. She was a kind neighbor, a devoted mother, and to her husband a help mate indeed. Above all, she was an earnest, uniform, consistent Christian. Her life was a beautiful example of industry and activity; her death calm and peaceful. Her body sleeps in Jesus, but her soul has gone to enjoy the rest and reward of the good and glorified Heaven. Wellborn Mooney
