    We the undersigned, sitting as a Pension Board for Izard County, do
certify that we have examined the application of the within named James H.
Harvell for pension, under Act of the General Assembly of the state of
Arkansas, as approved March 11, 1901, and the proof in support of same, and
find that said applicant is ____________a wounded Confederate soldier,
is in indigent circumstances, and wholly or partially incapacitated for
manual labor, and that his

APPLICATION FOR PENSION

    I James H. Harvell do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the
army (or sailor in the navy) of the Confederate States, being a member of
Col. Hollinquest's Regiment of Capt. Barret's 10th Mo. Battery, Artillery
having originally enlisted from the State of Arkansas or a member of the
crew of the ship called _____________; that I was honorably paroled from
such service on or about the ____ day of May 1865. and did not desert the
same that the proof of Service herewith submitted is all I have been able
to obtain; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona
fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife nor do
we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or
choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household
goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any
property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is
in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the
emoluments of as office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am
incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of
life (or am totally blind), and that such incapacity (or disability) is the
result of being almost blind in one eye, and of age and disease, and that
such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted
in, so help me God.

Peace within and for the County of Izard and State of Ark citizens of Izard
County whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence,
who, being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well
acquainted with applicant Henry Harvel-well and have known him for 40
years, respectively.
  That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company _________Regiment
of __________ That as such soldier he served from _______ to _______ That
he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did
not desert the same.  That he is now and has been for the past twelve
months a bona fide resident of Arkansas.  That he is incapacitated for
manual labor by reason of ____________and that such incapacity (or
disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.
That to the best of our knowledge all property now owned by him and his
wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods
and wearing apparel).  That neither he nor his wife is in receipt of any
income, annuity, pension or wages for any sevices, or the emoluments of an
office, in excess of $150 per year.  That we have no interest in this
claim. Henry Taylor says he knew the said Henry Harvell was in the service
of the Confederate army.

within and for the County of Izard and State of Arkansas. R.L. Landers
citizens of Melbourne, in said County whom I certify to be creditable persons
and worthy of confidence, who, being duly sworn, state that they are each,
personally, well acquainted with applicant James H. Harvell and have known
him since 1860 years, respectively.
  That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company some Missouri
Battery-the 10th., I think.  He joined at Pocahontas in 1862.  I left there
soon afterwards and never saw him again during the war.  After the close of
the war, said James H. Harvell came back here to Izard County.Regiment of
__________ That as such soldier he served from _______ to _______ That he was
honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did not
desert the same.  That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a
bona fide resident of Arkansas.  That he is incapacitated for manual labor
by reason of age and disease and that such incapacity (or disability) is not
the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.  That to the best of
our knowledge all property now owned by him and his wife, together, is not
worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel).

EVIDENCE OF PHYSICIAN
STATE OF ARKANSAS
County of Izard
  I, E A Baxter a duly registered and practicing physician in Izard County,
Arkansas, do hereby certify that I am personally acquainted with J.H. Harvell
of Gid Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of
Arkansas.
  That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition
and find:

Nearly blind in left eye, has naso-pharyngal catarrh
 
Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor
attributable

To the above named conditions & to general disability.  He seems to be very
feeble & prematurely old. and that said disability is not the result of his 
own vicious habits still persisted in.

Not due to vicious habits.

Extent of disability

 I think about 3/4- as compared to that of a healthy able bodied man.

Dear Sir:
             James H. Harvell, private in 10th. Mo. Confederate Battery, is
an applicant for ex-confederate pension under the lasw of Arkansas, and
knowing nothing of any of his comrades, is trying to make proof of his
service by documentary evidence.  He was a federal prisoner, I think, at the
close of the war; hence received no discharge or parole from his command.
If you have any record that will tend to prove his service, kindly send me
the necessary papers showing that fact, and greatly oblige.
            If above request is not explicit enough, in not giving sufficient
information to enable you to examine the records, please outline to me the
necessary points on which to base a request of this kind.

Confederate States Army, enlisted March 16, 1862, in Randoplh County,
Arkansas.  On the last company roll on file, dated December 31, 1864, he was
reported present.
  If he was a prisoner of war, the name of the prison in which confined, or
if paroled, the place and date of parole, should be stated.

citizens of Independence County, Ark. whom I certify to be a creditable
persons and worthy of confidence, who, being duly sworn, state that they are
each, personally, well acquainted with applicant J. H. Harvell and have
known him Since the fall of 1860  years, respectively.
  That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company Capt. Barrett's
Company Regiment of Missouri Light Artillery That as such soldier he served
from I saw him in the army with his command at Missionary Ridge, Ga., in
November, 1863, or it was in 1863, and I think it was in November.  I don't
think he ever deserted.  He seemed to  be too well satisfied in the army.
That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and
did not desert the same.  That he is now and has been for the past twelve
months a bona fide resident of Arkansas.  That he is incapacitated for manual
labor by reason of old age.  He is a weakly man besides,  and that such
incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still
persisted in.  That to the best of our knowledge all property now owned by
him and his wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of
household goods and wearing apparel).  That neither he nor his wife is in
receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any sevices, or the
emoluments of an office, in excess of $150 per year.  That we have no
interest in this claim. That I have no interest in this claim.

the close of the civil war  years, respectively.
  That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company_________ Regiment
of ____________ That as such soldier he served from Right after the civil
war, it was a matter of common mention that said James H. Harvell had served
throughout the war as a southern soldier, while the rest of his father's
family were Union people.  That he was honorably discharged (paroled or
released) from such service and did not desert the same.  That he is now and
has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas.  That
he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of_____________  and that such
incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still
persisted in.  That to the best of our knowledge all property now owned by
him and his wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of
household goods and wearing apparel).  That neither he nor his wife is in
receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any sevices, or the
