William C. Nelson

WILLIAM C. NELSON, assistant cashier of the Giles County, Tenn., National Bank. was born in Limestone County, Ala., August 17, 1849, son of Isaac and Lizzie Nelson, and of English descent. The father was born in Giles County in 1822, and was a farmer and merchant by occupation. He died in 1854. The mother was born in South Carolina about l824 and died in Giles County in l854. Our subject's paterinal grandfather was John Nelson, a native of Virginia, and an early imrnigrant to Tennessee. William C. was the third of four children and was raised on a farm. He received a practical education and, in 1871, began clerking in a dry goods store, where he remained until 1878, and then engaged in the clothing business, and continued that until 1881. At that time he opened a hardware store, and the same year became assistant cashier of Giles County National Bank. He sold his stock of hardware in l885. In l88l he married Georgie Adams, and is now the father of two children: Sue Adams and Lizzie. Mr. Nelson is a Democrat and a Mason, Knight Templar degree, and is at present eminent commander of Commandery No. 12. He is a Presbyterian and his wife belongs to the Episcopal Church.
