FIRST GENERATION
1. MILLER DOGGETT1 was born on 30 Mar 1789 in Lynchburg, Campbell County,
Virginia. He died on 7 Sep 1841 in Cornersville, Giles County, Tennessee.2
Land records dated 7 November 1836 exist between George W. Campbell and
Miller where Miller bought 457 acres for $1400. (This land area of
Giles/Marshall County was then called the Cove.)
The land Miller bought began at the southwest corner of the land sold to William
King, to a Hickory tree on the ridge, and thence to a Hickory near the gap of
the ridge to the W. line of Campbell's 5000 acres ... William F. Doggett
and Alexander Esselman were witnesses for this transaction.
Miller moved into and settled in 1809-1810 what is now known as Doggett Hollow in
Blue Creek Cove, near the Giles-Marshall County line one mile W of Cornersville,
Tennessee. (Cornersville, chose its name because the meridian which runs through
the town was used with another line to make the corner of Maury, Bedford, Lincoln
and Giles Counties. The corner was later moved, but the town kept the name.)
After the death of their son Solomon, Delilah and Miller took in Solomon's children
until Miller died, when Jennie stayed with Delilah and the boys were farmed out to
other uncles and aunts.

"Monday the eleventh a day of August 1841
Court on it according to adjournment present the hon. Edmund Dillahunty County
judge Daniel Ussery and Mary his wife, Al M. Bevins and Lewiza his wife, Terrell
Crowder and Martha his wife, George G. Crafton and Susan his wife, Miller Doggett,
Delilah Doggett, Delia Doggett, Homer Doggett, George W Doggett, William Doggett,
Ebenezer Doggett, Hilliard Doggett, Jane Doggett Complaintants petition for the
sale of land and stock George W. Doggett, Thomas Doggett, William Doggett, and
Ebenezer Doggett, Hilliard Doggett, and Jane Doggett defendants be it remembered
that this day this cause came on for hearing before the hon. Edmund Dillahunty
County judge and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court from the
petitioners and answer therein, that petitioner and defendants are the children,
heirs at law and distributors of Miller Doggett deceased, who died in the County of
Giles, state of Tennessee in 1847 intate and that he died seized and possessed of a
certain tract of land situated on Blue Creek in said County Containing about 360
acres bounded on the North by the lands of Thomas Walker, deceased. On the east by
the Lands of George W. Campbell and James Brown, on the south by the lands of
Shelby B. March and John Dabney and on the W. by the Lands of Benjamin Bearden
being this same tract on which the said Miller Doggett last resided before his
death and out of which petitioner Delia his widow has had her dower allotted to her
and it appearing also that said Miller died possessed of 3 slaves to wit see,
Irvine, and Nancy, which said slaves and land are subject to divison among
petitioners and defendants-- monetary token shares in the land and eleven in the
negroes and it appearing that said slaves and land cannot be divided, without a
sale thereof and it appearing that Said ates having long since been administered
upon and the debts all paid. It is therefore ordered and adjudged, and decreed by
the Court that said land and Negroes be sold at public sale after giving public
note for the space of 20 days, in three of the most public places in this districts
where said land and also in the town of Pulaski, that the land be sold on a credit
of one and two years subject to said Dower inter taking land and approved
securities for the purchase money and a lien on the land until the whole is paid
and that the slaves be sold on a credit of one year bond and appraised security for
the purchase money and get Landon Kincaid be Come is hereby appointed
Commissioner to carry said sale into effect upon his entering into an approved
security before the Clerk of this Court in double the value of said land and slaves
that he make said sale on the premises and report to the next term of the Court how
he shall have executed this decree."
MILLER DOGGETT was married to DELILAH GRIFFIS (daughter of THOMAS GRIFFIS
and SARAH UNKNOWN) on 9 Sep 1807 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. DELILAH
GRIFFIS was born on 17 Jan 1787 in Lynchburg, Campbell County, Virginia. She
appeared on the census in 1850 in Giles County, Tennessee as a widow with her son
William and his wife living with her. The children there were probably grand children.
DELILAH died Mar 1871 in Marshall County, Tennessee. She was buried in
Robertson's Fork, Giles County, Tennessee.

2. Thomas Doggett was born on 20 Feb 1809 in Lynchburg, Campbell County, Virginia.3
He appeared on the census in 1850 in Giles County, Tennessee. He died on 14 May 1889 in
Cornersville, Giles County, Tennessee. He was buried in Cornersville, Giles County,
Tennessee. He buried old jasper Doggett farm.
JoAnna unknown (Doggett) was born on 10 Mar 1811 in North Carolina.3 She died on 12 Oct 1884
in Marshall County, Tennessee. She name spelling ON CENSUS IS ANN. She buried old jasper
Doggett farm. Thomas Doggett and JoAnna unknown (Doggett) had the following children:

3. SOLOMON DOGGETT was born on 7 May 1810 in Cornersville, Giles County, Tennessee.
He died about 1837 in Giles County, Tennessee. He was buried in Robertson's Fork,
Giles County, Tennessee. He was nicknamed "doc. "
The original Robertson's Fork Church was Baptist and was a member of the Richland Creek
Association. In 1824 Peter Ussery (married Betsy Doggett) gave one acre of land on which
to build the building. By 1830 a difference of opinion was dividing the church and that
year they withdrew from the Richland Creek Association. Later that year or the next the
church split forming two Congregations. In 1832 the other Congregation built a new
Robertson's Fork Church of Christ on two acres donated by William Perkins(he was related to
the Doggetts in some fashion. I lost the notes on this). Thus Solomon became Church of
Christ.
Solomon and Mary had been married for about four years when Mary, on her way via horseback to
a neighbor's farm, became ill and died en route, leaving three children for Solomon to raise.
(The description indicates a possible brain aneurysm He married again, but had no children in
his se Cond marriage, which lasted less than two years before his death.
One day Solomon, while clearing land chopped a tree that fell into the branches of another.
When he Couldn't clear it, he left it until the morning. The next morning in attempting to
dislodge it, the tree came down wrong, impaling him on the stump. Solomon managed to free himself,
but was found later in the day, dead, where he had dragged himself toward his cabin. His wife
went to relatives in Arkansas, the children went to the grand parents to be raised. Solomon had
a land transaction with Samuel Perkins in 1837,shortly before his death. This land was probably
forfeited to Perkins because of Solomon's death. No records have been found that the three
children, being raised by relatives, inherited anything from the parents.
He was married to MARY N MORGAN (daughter of EDMUND R MORGAN and RACHEL CALVERT)
about 1831 in Giles County, Tennessee. MARY N MORGAN was born on 17 Oct 1811
in Enfield, White County, Illinois. She died on 25 Jul 1835 in Robertson's
Fork, Giles County, Tennessee. She was buried in Robertson's Fork, Giles
County, Tennessee. The cemetery is located highway 31 north right through
Lynnville, 2 miles W. of 165. Part is in Giles and part in Marshall County.

4. William F. Doggett 229 was born on 17 Nov 1811 in Marshall County, Tennessee.3 He appeared
on the census in 1850 in Giles County, Tennessee. William F. died on 11 Mar 1883 in Robertson's
Fork, Giles County, Tennessee, and was buried in the Robertson's Fork cemetery, Giles County,
Tennessee. Ebeneezer Miller, his nephew, lived with him after Eb's parents died. William
married ELizabeth C. Allen who was born on 29 May 1831.3 She died on 18 Jan 1904 in

21. EBENEEZER MILLER DOGGETT4 was born in Nov 1831 in Robertson's Fork, Giles County, Tennessee.
He appeared on the census in 1850 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas living with JOhn Robinson.
He appeared on the census in 1860 in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas.5 He appeared on
the census in 1870 in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas.
Ebeneezer Miller's land transactions related to his uncle Lewis Dickerson's land are listed in
book e page 304, jook j p 259-60 and 261 in Hamilton Co
book M. p 100 Ebenezer Miller bought a lot in Hamilton in 1883 and in book N p 88 in aug of
1883 he sold the lot. In 1884, Ebenezer Miller was no longer in Hamilton County.
He died on 4 Oct 1916 in Norton, Runnells County, Texas. Ebenezer, brother William, and sister
Jennie were the heirs of their Uncle Lewis W Dickerson. Lewis fought from 1837 - 1838 in the
Texas War for Independence, and served in the Siege of Bexar. Then he must have lived in
Texas for three years until 1851 (in 1851 the land grant law was passed where land was given
to veterans in lieu of pay, and to those living in Texas for at least three years from 1836 to
1839 as Texas citizens) when he got 640 acres. We have Lewis' records where he received 1280
acres for one year of service and 640 acres for the Siege of Bexar(battles earned extra land).
These acres were located in Hamilton County, Texas and we have the map of the County
identifying the land. Mr. Dickerson filed and received them on two patents. He also received
land in Bosque County but never filed the patent for it so lost it. After filing he died about
1854 leaving his half sister Mary Morgan Doggett, and his brother Caleb Dickerson as his heirs.
We can assume that this probably meant that his father was dead. His mother, Rachel Calvert
Morgan Dickerson, had died in 1822. His half sister, Mary Morgan Doggett died in 1847, but he
didn't know at the time of his death. At any rate the three Doggetts were given the land in
1854. From transactions we know that they gave some of the land over to Jennie, who had married
Dr. McLemore. Records exists of this transaction and indicate that they were money poor and
land rich, so they traded some of the Doctor's money for some of their share of land. William
Hilliard sold his share to Jennie outright, but Ebenezer did not. He was paying taxes on it in
1874. The records before this date were burned in a Courthouse fire. He sold the land in 1884
and went to live with a son, because of his poor health. He had previously been in Red River
County, living with his in laws the Beardens.
I found a book called Confederate Veterans which has a listing for E.M. Doggett
showing that he served during the Civil War and was in Company B of the Texas 20th infantry,
alsoc called the Jeff Davis infantry.
He was married to SARAH ELIZABETH BEARDEN (daughter of ENOCH BEARDEN and SARAH HOLT)
in 1852 in Clarksville, Red River County, Texas. SARAH ELIZABETH BEARDEN was born in 1832 in
South Carolina. She appeared on the census in 1850 in Giles County, Tennessee. She died in
Norton, Runnells County, Texas. EBENEEZER MILLER DOGGETT and SARAH ELIZABETH BEARDEN had the

22. William Hilliard Doggett6 was born on 18 Oct 1832 in Giles County, Tennessee.3 He appeared
on the census in 1870 in Red River County, Texas. He died in 1906 in Hamilton County, Texas.
He was buried in Hamilton County, Texas. Served in Confederate army in 1861 32nd tn volunteer
under Captain Winstead, Col Cook and General Buckner.
. He was captured at Fort Donaldson, and wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga. He could fight
no more, so went to Pulaski and signed the oath of allegiance so that he could help his family.
In 1869 they moved to Red River County, Texas and in 1874 to Hamilton, Texas. He sold his
inheritance from Lewis Dickerson and moved into Hamilton where he bought and sold land. He
made funeral caskets and later homes. He is buried in Hamilton Gentry Cemetery, Hamilton County,
Texas.
He married Sarah ELizabeth Moore They had the following children:

that she hated to leave her house and lived most of her life without ever leaving her place of
residence. She and Cletus in later years raised one of their grandchildren in their home.
