ELIZABETH TYLER. She was born April 13, 1782 in Greenville Co, SC, and died
November 17, 1835 in Greenville Co, SC. He married (3) LEVICA UNKNOWN Abt.
1837. She was born 1782, and died July 15, 1838 in Golden Grove, Anderson
Co, SC. He married (4) GRACE KING HOLLAND November 11, 1838 in Anderson
District SC. She was born August 1787 in MD, and died Aft. September 1850 in
Anderson Co, SC.
Notes for PHILLIP EVANS:
Phillip Evans was on the Surry Co, NC Census of 1786 and from his
Revolutionary Pension Papers, he moved to Greenville District SC in 1789. He
is listed on the SC 1790 Census.
Phillip Evans enlisted in 1780 in McDowell's Regiment, Burke Co, NC. He was
in the King's Mountain Campaign and was injured in a fall from his horse. He
did not directly engage in the battle itself. Later he assisted in escorting
prisoners taken during the battle. He fought in the Battle of Cowpens
(January 17, 1781).
I know from a 1794 deed involving the estate of James Charles (father of Mary
Charles) that Phillip Evans was married to Mary Charles at that time.
Phillip and Mary Charles had nine children. Phillip and Nancy Hudson had six
children. No children were born to Phillip and Levica Evans and no children
were born to Phillip and Grace King Holland. Phillip Evans was known to be
the father of fifteen children.
The will of Phillip Evans was probated the 13th day of July, 1849, Will Book
C p.295-298, Greenville Co, SC.
When Philip Evans died two of his daughters and their husbands, Caroline
Matilda Evans m. Henry Sherman and Rebecca Crutcher Evans m. Nelson
Dickerson, joined in a lawsuit attempting to prove that their father was not
competent mentally when he made his will. However, the probate court of
Greenville upheld the will. Philip's will very much favored his son, William
Hudson Evans, and the other children were left very little. He did remember
the widow of my Thomas (very little). I do have the transcriptions of the
documents in regard to this matter. One thing that Henry Sherman stated was
that he saw Philip very little "during the short time that he was married to
his third wife". Philip's 2nd wife, Nancy Hudson, died 17 November 1835 and
Levica was dead in 1838 after a short marriage "less than a year". Both
wives obituaries sounded as if they had both endured great suffering and
Nancy's stated that "the deceased had suffered great mental and bodily
affliction for sixteen years". Philip married Grace Holland in 1839 and
remained married until his death in 1849. He is buried on his plantation and
sad to say a broken headstone leans against a tree to mark the plot. On the
1830 census he was listed with 44 slaves and by 1840 his slaves are reduced
to 21. He probably had been giving some to his children as he was getting up
in years.

Notes for ELLA ELIZABETH EVANS:
Aunt Elizabeth left the following hand written note at the Bennett/Mays
Funeral Home: so like her! She had written this 12 years ago when she was
90. Her daughter and brother died after she wrote this.
Pulaski, TN, December 16, 1990
I Elizabeth Evans Kennedy, being of sound mind request the following for my
burial plans - I want Bill Bennett of Bennett/May Funeral home to take care
of all the plans. I do not want my casket opened to the public - Just want
my family members and Nita Worsham to see me.
A simple grave side service. Just a scripture, prayer and "Crossing the Bar"
read. No music or singing. Have the minister that is at First Methodist
here to do it.
No flowers. Just a pretty saddle made of mixed flowers that are in season.
Carl Green of Carl's Flowers knows what I like.
No vault. A nice simple casket. Bill will know. Use a soft blue or soft
pink robe. Make me look the best you can, with what you have to work on.
Bill, I want you to take care of all the things that need to be done. Becky
is not able to. This will include grave digging, preacher, flowers and other
things if needed. Just put it all on one bill. I will be buried on the
Henry Bugg lot. My stone is already there, so you will know the place.
My family - father, Henry Bugg Evans, mother - Betty Ross Evans, brother -
Ross I. Evans, Nashville, sister, Mary Evans Minatra, Pulaski, my child,
Rebecca Kennedy Jones, Shelbyville, TN, grandsons, Gordon Lee Jones, Jerry
Kennedy Jones, great grandsons, Scott, Jered and David Jones.

Notes for EMILY ELIZABETH MCCONNELL:
After the death of her father, Charlton Lee McConnell on January 17, 1914,
Emily Elizabeth McConnell was adopted by Miss Annie Elizabeth Leathers on
February 16, 1916. This adoption carried two stipulations: That Elizabeth's
name not be changed and that she was not to be vested with the right to
inherit from Miss Leathers. Annie Leathers was the daughter of Tommie Haynes
Leathers, a widow, who married Willis M. Farris, Sr. and became the mother of
four sons. These four brothers, Willis, Jr., Lee, Alfred and Frank were the
half brothers of Annie E. Leathers. At the death of her mother on July 25,
1901, Miss Leathers dedicated herself to raising her half brothers. Then in
1916, she adopted Elizabeth McConnell (age 8) and raised her. Annie E.
Leathers was born March 2, 1876 and died August 26, 1966. She is buried in
the Farris family plot at Mt. Olivet in Nashville, TN.
The first home of the Farris family was at 301 51st Avenue and the area was
called "Farris Hill". The family built and moved to a new house on Park
Avenue between 49th and 50th in the early 1900's. It was razed for
construction of Cohn High School.
The family of Charlton Lee and Artie McConnell lived at 4905 Park Avenue with
their three daughters. Charlton McConnell was at one time manager of the
Nashville Hardwood Flooring Company and was one of the most widely known
lumbermen in the South. (Info from the obituary of Charlton L. McConnell).
