He is listed as Anderson Hardman in the 1850 census.
Elizabeth Hughes (daughter of William Hughes and Mrs Elidia Hughes) was born about 1808 in , , SC. Received 70 acres of land in Limestone County AL from her father's estate. Anderson Hardiman and Elizabeth Hughes had the following children:

Judy McDougal Byrd of Giles County supplied most of the information for the John Edward Hardiman branch of the family. Richardson Cemetery is on Maccasin Creek, at one time called Crab Creek. John was a blacksmith.

The discovery of a diary/ journal/ledger of accounts kept by William M Hardiman provided several key dates of birth and marriages. The diary is in the possession of Peggy Joyce Hardiman Smith. Several of the Wimmiam Hardiman's descendant's made entries in the diary.
Janice Hardiman Lewis, Linda Hardiman Smith, and A.F. Tate Jr. provided information for the Thomas Hardiman branch of this family. Chancery Court Abstracts 1830-1890 state that William Hardiman and Hardin Griggs died on the same day. Hardin's tombstone is dated 3 days earlier than the reported death of William. William was a constable from District 10 for 1866 in Giles County. William and Margaret Frances Grady are probably buried at an unmarked site in Beech Hill Cemetery.

her body. Polly never married. She lived with her
brother Andrew Johnson Hardiman and his family until she
died.

11. Samuel B Hardiman CSA was born about 1828 in Limestone, AL. He died in 1872 in Giles, TN. He is in the Giles county census for 1860 with wife Martha A. He is probably in the Giles County Census for 1870 with the spelling of his last name as Hardman with his new wife Mary Lesly (GCMB P30). He was a blacksmith. His will was dated July 5 1872. Samuel enlisted as a Pvt in Co G 53rd Tenn Infrantry 12 Dec 1861. He was captured at Ft Donaldson. He took the oath from POW camp in Illinois, and completed his CSA service as a Nurse in a Gainsville Alabama Hospital.
He was married to Martha A Shelton (daughter of Mark Shelton Jr and Emmaline Glossup) about 1860 in Giles, TN. Martha A Shelton was born about 1844 in AL. 13. William Washington Hardiman CSA KIA was born about 1832 in , Limestone, AL. He died before 1870 in , Giles, TN. Mrs Larry (Judy) Byrd of Leoma, Tennessee contributed a major portion of this family's information. Family tradition states that William went off to war with the Confederate Army and never returned home. His CSA enlistment papers has his name spelled "HARDIMON". He enlisted as a pvt in Co D 53rd Tenn Regiment 6 Dec 1861.

She was listed in her father's journal as Doss in 1864 when she purchased "Bakin" from her father. Her name is Doss already when she married William Blount Doss on 25 Dec 1870. Information on her 1st marriage obtained from Ronald "Chris" Doss, source Middle Tennessee Marriages. Marriage to W B Doss is recorded in the GCMB page 124. She had 8 children, 7 of which were living according to the 1900 Giles County Census. CSA pension request # 2366.
She was married to William Blount Doss CSA (son of Doss) on 25 Dec 1870 in Giles TN. William Blount Doss CSA was born in Dec 1842 in Giles, TN. He died in 1907 in Giles, TN. He was buried in 1907 in New Zion, Giles, TN. He enlisted May 18th 1861 in Company H 3rd Tenn Infantry. He lost his left arm in the battle of Raymond Miss May 12 1863 and was sent home for the rest of the war. He served one term as county Register, and was an auctioneer and farmer. He is pictured with the family hunting dog. The dog's name pictured with A J Hardiman is JACK. Brown stated that Jack was the best hunting dog the family had owned. Brown, Skinny, and Buck used to hunt with Jack. Then sold the skins in Pulaski. Skinny had to shoot Jack when he had aged and had the mange.
A J signed a note for a man named Simmons. Mr Simmons could not pay the note and neither could A J. A J declared bankruptcy rather than pay the note. He lost the family land he had received from his father and siblings. A J later sold the house to Henry George. A J was working for the L&N railroad when he declared bankruptcy. L&N fired him for filing the bankruptcy. His son, James Lester Buford Hardiman, later bought a farm that he shared with his parents and siblings.
The kindest words ever uttered regarding A J Hardiman was that he was a "Gentleman Farmer". He was a very gruff, hard drinking, taskmaster.
He was married to Daisy Beulah Turner (daughter of Hardin Turner and Nancy Graham) on 9 Dec 1896 in , Giles, TN. Daisy Beulah Turner was born on 21 Aug 1877 in Marshall, TN. There was a mischievious twinkle in her blue eyes that has been passed down for several generations. She loved life. She had a way of making each of her grandchildren feel like they were a special person. Each grandchild playfully and affectionately relates to the other grandchildren how "grandma loved me best!". It would be impossible to say which grandchild loved her most.
After her husband died, she had no place of her own to live. She rotated living with each of her children for several months. She lived her last few years comfortably with her daughter Etha in Louisville.

One day during World War I as Etha, Georgia Lou, and Polly Warren (sister of Andrew Johnson Hardiman) were picking peas and filling their sacks they had strung over their shoulders, an airplane appeared overhead. None of them had been out of Giles County or seen an airplane before. Etha stated that if the airplane was German he would shoot them. They started s-l- o-w-l-y walking back toward the house, and as they did the airplane appeared overhead again. They walked faster and faster. Peas began to scatter from their sacks. Finally they threw the sacks aside and were running as hard as they could yelling that the Germans were trying to shoot them. Their father, Andrew Johnson Hardiman, appeared at the door of the cabin and chastised them for not knowing that the pilot of the airplane was American. Polly berated her brother for traveling repeatedly alone to Nashville. The rest of the family had no knowledge of wordly affairs or events.

He celebrated his birthdate June 9, but when he received his birth certificate in order to retire, he was not named, and his birthdate was recorded as June 19th. He decided to keep the name of Joe Rye, and celebrated his birthday from then on June 9 through June 19. He was named after for the governor of Tennesssee, Joe Rye. He served for a time during the depression with the CCC. He and his brother returned from camp after the death of their father.
He had a good sense of humor. He was not known for telling the truth. He once told a fellow soldier that he had been a barber in civilian life, and the soldier allowed Joe Rye to cut his hair. Of course the haircut was awful. There are pictures of Joe Rye with a shaved head that were taken after the soldier with his friends holding him down, shaved Joe Rye's head the next night.
The pictures also show a crow that he adopted as a pet. He swore that the crow followed the mess wagon around calling "CHOW" "CHOW" ...
Joe Rye served in the army in WWII. He was inducted at Camp Atterberry Indiana. He also spent time at Fort Harrison Indiana, Sumter South Carolina, and Fort Tullahoma Tennessee before leaving for England.
He injured himself loading the boat getting ready for the Normandy invasion. The hernia prevented him from leaving with the landing force. His army ID was 35106828. SS# 410-05-5847.
In later years he became involved with church work at Ormsby Avenue Baptist church, and was instrumental in the move of the church to the suburbs where the church was renamed to Ormsby Heights Baptist. He was very involved with the bus ministry of that church. His best friend was the minister of Ormsby Heights, the Rev Dallas Vincent.
He spent some time on the road working with his brother Brown showing cattle for Milky Way Farms. After moving to Louisville, he worked at Spalding Laundry for a few years. He then worked for Brown Forman Distillers as a warehouseman until he retired. After retirement he worked Flea Markets buying and selling pocket watches, pocket knives, and used bicycles.
He and Ruby met at their mutual place of employment, Spalding Laundry. A 3 pack-a-day smoker, he died of lung cancer.
He was married to Ruby Ellen Chasteen (daughter of William Sherman "Pop" Chasteen "Willie" and Sara Woodia "Woodie" Wolfe) on 21 Jun 1941 in Louisville, Jefferson, KY. Ruby didn't really like to leave home, but after her husband died joined a leisure club at Ormsby Heights Baptist Church, and traveled extensively with that group.
She loved country music and always had the radio playing until she discovered Television. The music she heard from then on was on Tv shows such as Hee Haw. She also enjoyed solving cross word puzzels.

Neither her husband or her were aware that their ancestors knew each other in the late 1700's in Buckingham County, Virginia. She is a descendant of the Pierre Chastain family that migrated from France to Virginia to Kentucky. He is a descendant of the Hardeman family that migrated from Virginia to Limestone County, Alabama, and then to Giles County, Tennessee. Joe Rye left Tennessee during the depression to seek employment in Kentucky. There are several petitions from the 1780's where both of their ancestors have signed, and they are on the same tax list for the 1787 Buckingham County Virginia Census.
