ELIZABETH HUTCHINSON. She was born Abt. 1815, and died

Notes for ELAM SIDNEY ROSS:
Information regarding Elam Ross is taken from the biography
of Columbus M. Ross, Texas Co., MO, p.1143-1144 of the History
of LaClede, Camden, Dallas, Webster, Wright, Texas, Pulaski,
Phelps and Dent Counties, MO, 1889. States "Columbus M.
Ross, M.D. was born in Giles Co., TN on February 8, 1833 and
is the son of Elam and Dorcas (Vansandt) Ross, both natives
of TN. The parents left their native State in 1856 locating
near Marshfield, MO...the paternal grandfather of our subject
was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He immigrated to
Middle Tennessee about 1800 and there died at the extreme
age of ninety-eight years. He and two sons were in the War
of 1812."
In fact John Ross was only 87 at the time of his death, he
was not in the War of 1812 as he would have been 54 years
old; however Elam's brothers, Joab and Presley D. Ross,
did serve in this war.
"Seems that Elam followed George Vansandt and his family
from Giles to Wayne County around 1840. In 1849 the Court
Minutes of Wayne County show a E.S. Ross and son, Columbus
were to work on the road to Lawrence Co. Early in 1850,
Elam Ross was to be a juror in Wayne Co. By the early
50s several sons of George Vansandt moved to Webster
County, Missouri. I am convinced that George Vansandt was
the father of Elam s wife Dorcas (in 1860 Columbus Ross
lived in Marshfield, close to Giles P. R. Vansandt, a son
of George)."

by 1840 as this census lists a female in the household.

Notes for GEORGE BLACKMAN ROSS:
G.B. (George Blackman) ROSS was born in Maury Co., TN August

He was in the Mexican War and enlisted in Eutaw, Greene Co.,
Alabama on May 27th, 1846. He was in Company "D", the 1st
Regiment of Alabama Volunters commanded by J. R. Coffee and
held the rank of Corporal.
George B. Ross was named a cousin of Sarah Jane Moore
(child of Jane Ross Moore) in a lawsuit in Giles Co., TN.
Jane Ross was a sister of John Ross, father of G. B. Ross.
The 1830 Giles Co., TN census shows G.B. Ross living alone
and age 20/30.
John Ross (Revolutionary soldier born in 1758 in Mecklenburg
Co., NC) and his wife, Margaret were living in the household
of George Ross in the 1840 Giles Co., TN census. In this
census was also 1 female under 5 (Sarah Ann) , 1 female
20/30 (wife of G.B.), 1 female 60/70 (Margaret, his mother).
The Mexican War Pension Application states that George B.
Ross joined in Eutaw, Greene Co., AL on May 27th 1846 was
discharged in New Orleans, LA and lived for four or five
years in Eutaw, AL before moving back to Giles Co., TN.
The 1850 Giles Co., TN census has Sarah Ann and Loretta
Jane (children of G.B. Ross) in the household of Joab Ross
(a brother of G.B. Ross).
The 1860 Giles Co., TN census has G.B. Ross (age 50) and
Loretta Jane (age 18) p. 118, #347.
The 1870 Giles Co., TN census has no G.B. Ross.
The 1880 Giles Co., TN census has G.B. Ross
George B. Ross applied for a pension on Feb 1, 1887
C6645 SC-6645
The estate settlement of George Ross named his two
daughters: Loretta Jane and Sarah Ann. Sarah Ann (b. 1838)
married Joe B. Brownlow. Loretta Jane (b. 1841) married
C. C. Parsons and resided in Coleman Co., TX. (This
information from Giles Co., TN file box IX, filed Sept
24, 1888 with Field Arrowsmith, Administrator.)
I have no information on the wife of G.B. Ross. It
appears they married after 1830 and before 1838 since
the two girls were born in 1838 and 1841. G.B. left his
children with his brother in the 1850 census and it
appears Sarah Ann had married before the 1860 census
where G.B. is living without his wife and with his daughter,
Loretta Jane. I have no information about the whereabouts
of G.B. Ross in the 1870 census. He appears back in Giles
Co., TN in the 1880 census and his estate settlement was
in Giles Co., TN in August of 1888.

and brother died after she wrote this.
Pulaski, TN, December 16, 1990
I Elizabeth Evans Kennedy, being of sound mind request
the following for my burial plans - I want Bill Bennett
of Bennett/May Funeral home to take care of all the plans.
I do not want my casket opened to the public - Just want
my family members and Nita Worsham to see me.
A simple grave side service. Just a scripture, prayer
and "Crossing the Bar" read. No music or singing.
Have the minister that is at First Methodist here to do it.
No flowers. Just a pretty saddle made of mixed flowers
that are in season. Carl Green of Carl's Flowers knows
what I like.
No vault. A nice simple casket. Bill will know. Use
a soft blue or soft pink robe. Make me look the best
you can, with what you have to work on.
Bill, I want you to take care of all the things that
need to be done. Becky is not able to. This will include
grave digging, preacher, flowers and other things if
needed. Just put it all on one bill. I will be buried
on the Henry Bugg lot. My stone is already there, so
you will know the place.
My family - father, Henry Bugg Evans, mother - Betty
Ross Evans, brother - Ross I. Evans, Nashville, sister,

Notes for EMILY ELIZABETH MCCONNELL:
After the death of her father, Charlton Lee McConnell on
January 17, 1914, Emily Elizabeth McConnell was adopted
by Miss Annie Elizabeth Leathers on February 16, 1916.
This adoption carried two stipulations: That Elizabeth's
name not be changed and that she was not to be vested with
the right to inherit from Miss Leathers. Annie Leathers
was the daughter of Tommie Haynes Leathers, a widow,
who married Willis M. Farris, Sr. and became the mother
of four sons. These four brothers, Willis, Jr., Lee,
Alfred and Frank were the half brothers of Annie E.
Leathers. At the death of her mother on July 25, 1901,
Miss Leathers dedicated herself to raising her half
brothers. Then in 1916, she adopted Elizabeth McConnell
(age 8) and raised her. Annie E. Leathers was born
March 2, 1876 and died August 26, 1966. She is buried
in the Farris family plot at Mt. Olivet in Nashville, TN.
The first home of the Farris family was at 301 51st Avenue
and the area was called "Farris Hill". The family built
and moved to a new house on Park Avenue between 49th and
50th in the early 1900's. It was razed for construction
of Cohn High School.
The family of Charlton Lee and Artie McConnell lived at
4905 Park Avenue with their three daughters. Charlton
McConnell was at one time manager of the Nashville
Hardwood Flooring Company and was one of the most widely
known lumbermen in the South. (Info from the obituary
