She died the best I can say about 1901 or 1902 in Honey Grove, Texas. Yes my Granny, Fannie WALKER CASE mar. real young & I think in Tenn. She mar. a Mr. HARRIS, had 2 daughters. I never knew them. I knew all of Grandpa's children. They were one big family. I didn't know my granny's sister you speak of. At that time I was real young. I saw your grandfather one time as I can remember tho I am sure I saw him & all others you speak of when was a child as there seemed to be a lot of kin people coming & going all the time at my Grand Daddys home. Grand Daddy & Granny went to Grayson Co. got Jim WALKER & his little sister Mary I remember their coming to our house so well. Their mother & Dad, I think they separated or maybe he died. They had 4 children, Jim, Mary, Rose I cant remember the other girls name. (Nannie Mae WALKER) Their mother mar. again so her husband wouldn't accept her children she had to give them away. Jim & Mary were the youngest. Little Mary died about a year after Granny got them. See they were granny's brother John's children. I think that was his name. Jim never knew to much about his older sisters. The last I remember of him speaking of them they lived in Austin. Jim & me are the same age. I will be 81 Sept. 6 in Oct. he will be 81. He is sick. I see him once in a while. ... My husband died Sept 5 1977. I have a daughter Mary Beth. Willie in Waco, a son Charles, Jr. lives in Temple retired from Veterans hospital at Temple. He & his wife Letha were nurses there. Faye is a nurse in a nursing home here. I have a son Russll Lee at Galveston. He is a foreman at a nail plant there. He has 3 sons. I lost a son June 8, 1960 of leukemia. He was 34 left a 10 years old son Steve he lives in Calif. ... Faye will jet to San Francisco to see her son & wife & her only grandson Stevie. I don't know James WALKER or Polly after my Granny died in 1925. I took care of her. I lived with her until I mar. in 1919. Then took care of her most of the rest of her life. So many of their children got her things. I dont know who brought him tho. Grandpa never lived in her home at Satin. They lived on a big farm north of Satin during his life time. She bought this house & she & I helped her keep boarders. She loved to go fishing & would go often. Someone would all ways take her. I did after I married & had a car. She willed her home to me but I was beat out of it. I know I am not much help as I was a child in those early years & I just remember all of them. I do remember a pretty girl comming to visit long times with us. Jim & me loved her. I dont know who was her parents they called her Brigget (Bridget did visit them). I think name spelled right or name is Bright. Could it been Cricket. Do you know of anyone by that name. She was real pretty had black hair ... I hope you can get a little information from this ... He lived in Campbell's Station as a youth, has taught in several universities, having earned a Ph.D. He retired from Texas A & M University & has written several scholarly books on the Indian tribes of northwestern Mexico where he lived & worked among them. His experiences combined with much research of Military & Religious & other archive records resulted in his books which were reviewed by many organizations & individuals. Having read a copy of one of his books I can understand students still calling on him for help with their academic ambitions. He has also served as a consultant this year involving Federal agencies in their considerations of granting funds to that area of Mexico. [He has diaries kept by various members of his ancestry. Some have been donated to University archives. Other rare items, were also donated to a museum. He has other items of family handed down, some mentioned were samplers made by family members, one of which was made by an ancestor of Jackson WHITE of Gi. Test. Peter RANDOLPH C. & C. Truly recorded. Test Peter RANDOLPH C. & C. Part of a Copy of Letter of Thomas White Fountain Creek, Maury Co., Tenn. Dec 27, 1891 Mrs. Margaret J. PHELPS Springfield, MO My Dear Niece Yours of the 20th was received in due time. I was glad to hear from you. I am left here solitary and alone of my father's once numerous family. There is not even a descendant of any of my brothers & sisters here. John WOLDRIDGE is the nighest one. He lives in Pulaski and is blind. His eyes shot out during the war. He gets a pension of $20.00 per month. His sister LIZZIE lives somewhere in Georgia. I never hear from her. She had two daughters by her first husband. Whither she has any more I know not. I know nothing of my parents ancestors. I never did see either of my grand fathers or mothers. They all died before I was born. My Father and his brothers JACKSON, CARTER and HENDERSON came from Virginia. His three brothers settled in Ky. He came to Williamson County, Tenn. There is where he met mother and married her. She was only 13 years old when married. When they left Williamson they settled at Lynnville. If Father had any sisters I never heard him or mother say anything about them. I do not know where mothers ancestors came from. They all lived in Williamson County as far as my knowledge goes. Her 2 brothers Thomas & John WALKER settled in Giles Co. east of Lynnville. She had a sister who married a MCCONICO one married a JORDON one married a BILES. I think she had two or three more sisters but I do not know who they married. She had a brother named JAMES. I don't know where he lived. These old folks have all passed away. They all have very large families. Our Family was the largest 19 children. You say in your letter that you have looked forward to the time when you might visit the scenes of your childhood. Nothing would give us more pleasure than to have you, not only you, but your husband, to visit us. I would like to have any of you to visit us. What has become of your Aunt SALLIE there was a line above the name) and Aunt MANERVA. Where is Martin EVANS. I use to go to school with him. His brother WILLIAM died last summer. This letter makes me think of a letter I once wrote your Father. I wrote him 10 pages. Give my love to all the family and accept a due portion for yourself and husband. Your affectionate Uncle Thos. WHITE [The original letter is held by Campbell White Pennington, a desendant of the writer of this letter, who so kindly shared with me.] ***** |
