Colston - May - Hobbs

-James Colston, son of William and Martha 'Minatree' Colston (1860) Giles Co., TN census, served as a Private in Co. K, 6th TN Cav., CSA. He married Nancy Payne 29 Jul 1866 in Giles Co., TN. James is a brother to Solomon Colston listed on this forum.

-David Colston, son of William and Martha 'Minatree'Colston (1860) Giles Co., TN census, served as a Private in Co. C. 22nd Batt'n Infantry TN Regiment, CSA. David married Nancy Jane Cox 1867 in Lincoln Co., TN. He is also a brother to Solomon Colston listed on this forum.

-John W. May, son of Reuben and Susannah 'Cato' May, served in Co.K. 4th TN Cavalry Regiment, CSA. He married Nancy Frances Howard in Madison Co., AL. Nancy was the daughter of John and Catherine 'Weaver' Howard of Madison Co., AL. John and Nancy (Fanny) May lived in Giles Co., TN, and are buried in the Old Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery at Elkton, TN. I have placed a Military Memorial Marker there for him, and private markers for Nancy and some of their children who were buried there. This cemetery is in bad condition; stones have been damaged, really needs someone to adopt it as a project to care for it. I have been told that the 'stone walled-up' area in the cemetery was placed there as a project by the Minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church during the Civil War due to the terrible carnage he witnessed, and both Union and Confederate soldiers were buried there.

-Alexander Hobbs, son of Christopher Hobbs and first wife (name unknown), served in Co. D, 35th Infantry Regiment, TN CSA. He married Emeline Lynn July 1864 in Lincoln Co., TN. She was the daughter of Jackson Ulysses and Lucinda (?) Lynn. Alexander and Emeline Hobbs are listed on the 1880 Giles Co., TN census; but moved west after that time.
