Confederate Pension Application
Lorenzo Hyles

Lorenzo D. HYLES made Confederate Pension application on September 8, 1903. Some facts stated in his application are: Born 1835 in Giles Co.  Enlisted in Wheeler's Regiment, Co. H, Captain Jones, Oct 1861.  He surrendered in Alabama with rest of unit. At the time of application, his wife was 52 years old; he stated that his children were all dead. The pension was finally approved but Lorenzo HYLES died right before he could have started collecting.  He was dead before July 26, 1905.

Lorenzo D. HYLES married Sarah A. E. GILMORE, also of Giles Co.  She was born Mar 20, 1851 and they married July 31,1867.  Lorenzo became an attorney and they moved to Gibson County.  We do not know anything of the children of Lorenzo as they had all died prior to 1903.  We have not found record of Lorenzo's burial place but Sarah A. E. GILMORE HYLES died Feb 19, 1911 and is buried in Gibson Co. at Bell's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
