Registered the 25th day of April 1842

This Indenture made this the 20th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight Hundred and forty two between James Hosting ____ of the County of Giles and State of Tennessee of the first part and Malinda Hasting the widow William Hasting, Deceased and her two children, to wit, Mary Elizabeth Hasting and Thomas David Hasting, the heirs at law of said William Hasting, deceased of the County and State aforesaid of the second part witnessforth that the said party of the first part have for and in consideration of the sum of One Thousand and twenty five dollars to him in hand paid by the said party of the second part in the life time of the said William Hasting, Deceased the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, both granted bargains said _____ and conveyed and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, _____ and convey unto this said Malinda Hasting and said Mary Elizabeth Hasting and Thomas David Hosting their _______ and ________ forever one half of a certain lot tract on parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Giles and State of Tennessee bounded on the South by Elk River and on the east and north by Richland Creek and on the west by Lucy Pulley's line it being the tract of land conveyed by John D. Mc_____ Ever (not certain of spelling) of Isaac Price, deceased of Mecklenburgh County North Carolina containing two hundred and five acres, the one half above to be laid off out of the said two hundred and five acres and to be laid off on the west side of said tract adjoining the lands of Lucy Pully. To have and to hold the same described lot tract on parcel of land together with all and regular the rights appurtenances thereunto belong on in any way appurtenances unto the said party of the second part these heirs and assigns forever and claim of said lot ___ or parcel of land against the claim or claims of himself, his heirs or assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever unto the said party of the second part their heirs and assigns forever. Personally appeared before me Edward D. K_____ Clerk of the County Court of Giles County Am___Ezell and John W. Coopier (transcriber not certain of spelling) subscribing witnesses to the within named deed, who being first sworn, deposed and say that they are acquainted with James Hasting the Bargainer, that he acknowledges the same in their presence to be his ____ and Deed upon the day it bears date - witnesses my hand of office this 24th day of February __ 1842.


NOTE: The Malinda Hasting mentioned in the following document was the former Malinda Clem. Following the demise of William Hasting she married Davidson Eaves of Limestone Co. by whom she had several more children. Davidson Eaves was awarded guardianship of the children. Mary Elizabeth Hasting named in the deed gift died before the 1860 census and is probably buried in the Hasting Family Cemetery in Limestone Co. The child Thomas D. Hasting survived to adulthood and married 3 times and sired at least 18 children by three wives. He is buried in the New Grden Cemetery in Limestone Co. near the graves of his second wife Janette Boyd Hasting(s) and one or more of his daughters.
