REGISTERED March 27, 1848

This Indenture made & entered into this 25th day of November 1847 between Copeland Whitfield of the County of Giles & State of Tennessee of the first part and Joseph Hastings of the County of Limestone & State of Ala of second part witnesseth: that the said Copeland Whitfield for & in consideration of the sum of nine hundred dollars to him in hand paid by the said Joseph Hastings the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth give grant bargain & self al____ below convey and confirm unto the said Joseph Hasting his heirs & assigns a certain tract piece or parcel of land situate lying & being in the county of Giles aforesaid on the waters of Richland Creek & which is butted & boundared as follows: Beginning at the South East corner of Samuel Garrett Tract of land on Charles Biles' west boundary. Thence, Smith along said Biles line till it intersects the north boundary of Cornilius Doherty land. Thence west with said Doherty's line tell it intersects the north boundary line of Littleberry Hazlewood's land and west long his line till it intersects the East boundary line of Tho. Boswell's land. Thence north said Boswell's lines thence East till the su_____ intersects Samuel (hard to read?could be Sol) Garretts west corner thence East with the said Garrett's South boundary line to the Byle's containing by estimation two hundred & sixty acres. To have & to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all & singular the improvements h___aments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertained to him the said Joseph Hasting, his heirs and assigns to his & their only proper use benefit & behalf forever. And the said Copeland Whitfield for his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant promise & agree to ___ the said Joseph Hasting his heirs and assigns that the title to the above described tract or parcel of land he will warrant and forever defend against the claim and demand of all & every person or persons whatever setting up title to the same in Law or Equity. In witness whereof I the said Copeland Whitfield hath hereunto sit my hand & seal the day & dated above written.
