About the Giles County Historical Society
|The Society was founded May 4, 1974, for the purpose of identifying and preserving valuable historical assets such as architecture, records, photographs and artifacts
and making them available to anyone interested in Giles
County History. These goals are accomplished through such
ongoing projects as Giles Historic Homes Tours, the Giles
County Historical Society Museum, the Sam Davis Museum,
the Giles County Historical Society Genealogical Research
Room and the Quarterly Bulletin.|
The Society also offers a variety of historic and genealogical publications, quarterly programs of historic interest and technical assistance in historic preservation and genealogy. Members are available as speakers for school and civic groups and to assist with history related community projects.
Regular Meetings are held on the fourth Sunday of January, April, July and October at 2:00 p.m., (Central Time) in the Giles County Public Library unless announced otherwise.
Queries with a maximum of 100 words are allowed free to each member. Queries from non-members are published for $2.00 per query, as space allows. All queries are edited and published at the discretion of the Editor in the order received.
The Giles County Historical Society has always tried to answer all correspondence. For many years a research fee was not charged, only copying costs. Recently we have been charging $5.00 for a search, plus copying costs and postage. Due to the fact that sometimes those that we do research for do not compensate for the search, copying costs, and postage, we ask that when making a request, please send us your $5.00 research fee, plus a self-addressed stamped envelope and be as specific as you can with your request. If any copying costs occur, we will notify you of this cost and trust that it will be sent to us.
Membership dues from January 1 until December 31 are $15.00 per year.
