William Harvey McGuire

From the Fayetteville Observer, April 6, 1876

ACCIDENT-Mr. W. H. McGuire, brother of Dr. C. B. McGuire of this place, was killed at Merryville, Giles County, Tenn., on Wed., 29th ult. He and a man named Reed were hauling wood, when the horses became frightened from some cause and ran away. Mr. McGuire and Reed were standing in the wagon. Reed jumped out. Mr. McGuire holding or pulling the right line turned the horses suddenly, throwing the wagon bottom side up, catching him under it. The accident happened about 50 yards from his house, in a field where sugar cane was planted last year, a stub of which stuck through his neck from side to side, cutting the large blood vessels. His skull was broken and he did not breathe but one time after Reed got to him. The deceased was for a long time a member of Calhoun Lodge No. 26, I.O.O.F., Fayetteville.
