Mrs. Ellen Watts Obituary

Ellen E. Blanton was born 5 June 1855 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, the daughter of William Jay Blanton and Cynthia E. Coward. She was married 03 November 1880 in Hamblen County, Tennessee, to Horace Albert Watts, born 15 April 1854 and died 12 February 1928, son of Anderson Watts and Hester Chatman. They settled in Giles County, Tennessee in 1905.

On Tuesday December the third the death angels visited our community and claimed Mrs. Ellen Watts for their own. Mrs. Watts was sick for only three days with heart trouble and acute indigestion and her death was a great shock to her loved ones and friends although she had been subject to the attacks of heart trouble for many years. Mrs. Watts was 73 years of age, the sixth day of last June. She was a good kind Christian woman and a noble character loved and respected by all who knew her. She was laid to rest at New Zion Cemetery by the side of her husband the Rev. Horace Watts who preceded her to the Great Beyond only ten months ago, February 12th of this year. She is survived by five sons, Carl Watts of Wales, Tenn., Astor Watts of Virginia, Ill., Ance Watts and Eber Watts of Knoxville, Tenn., and Rassie Watts of this community with whom she made her home.

"She is not dead but sleepeth".

She was preceded in death by one son, Arthur S. Watts, born September 10, 1884 in Grainger County, Tennessee and died February 1, 1904 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa.
