Edgar Gross, Barnes Cathcart, and Gladys Ellard

Edgar Gross was the son of George Adam Gross and Susan Beatrice Uray (I believe they married in Giles Co.); George Adam Gross was the son of G. W. Gross of Lee Co., Mississippi, (who died in the civil war) and Edith C. Edwards of Itawamba Co., Mississippi.

Barnes Cathcart was the son of David Cathcart (1870-1904) of Giles Co.

Gladys Marie Ellard was the daughter of Lillie Belle Cathcart (1872-1952) of Giles Co., and John Andrew Ellard of Mississippi, later of Texas.

David and Lillie Belle Cathcart were the children of William Hugh Cathcart and Edith C. Edwards Gross Cathcart of Giles Co. George Adam Gross moved to Limestone Co., Alabama to rear his large family and he and Bea died and are buried there. Their son, Edgar, was in the navy and aboard the Oklahoma when it was sunk at Pearl Harbor.

Barnes Cathcart had moved to Huntsville, Alabama, when he died and left a widow and four sons there.

Gladys Ellard (1903-1987) moved with her family to Texas in 1911 where she married in 1924 Samuel Whitsett Williams. They are buried in San Antonio, Texas where they lived many years. They had two children; I am their daughter, Joyce Williams Blackman.

Captain Hiram Taylor Hunnicutt

This is a picture of my gggg-grandfather, Hiram Taylor Hunnicutt, b.11 Apr, 1827 in Giles Co., d. Jul 1867 in Giles Co. of complications from his war wounds. His parents were William and Joanna (Barber) Hunnicutt, also of Giles County.

On 11 Jan, 1849, he married Pherabe York in Lincoln Co., and they lived in Giles. I can find no information on her other than that she was born 1830 in Tn. and died between 1857-1859 in Giles. They had 4 daughters.

Hiram was Captain of Captain Hunnicutt's Tennessee Volunteers, 32nd Tennessee, Co. B, CSA. He was wounded at Mufreesboro and lost his right hand.
