HALL

I am searching for a James K. Polk Hall born Oct. 29, 1846 in Tenn. According to the Civil War records a James K.P. Hall enlisted in the Confederate army with men from Giles county. He later deserted in Giles county. The age is close to my relative but I do not know if it him or not. He had 2 brothers Wally and Dick. James moved to Texas and married there in 1874 and moved to Oklahoma in the late 1880's. I believe his brothers lived in Texas but am not sure. If this name is familiar will share what information I have.

Robert Beall GARDNER, my great grandfather, appointed Assistant Surgeon of the 3rd Battalion Georgia Infantry Volunteers, CSA in 1861 in Greenville, TN. JOHNSON

Among my ancestors buried in Giles County is a Matilda "Mattie" D. JOHNSTON (or JOHNSON) who was born Abt. 1856, died Aft. 1922. She was a daughter of William & Phebia Catherine Johnston.

Can anybody give me directions to Poplar Creek Cemetery near Prospect (Giles County), TN? Matilda, and probably some of her siblings, are buried there, and a now-deceased uncle recalled attending Matilda's burial at Poplar Creek Cemetery, saying that they took her by wagon "so far", and then had to carry the casket about a quarter-mile to the cemetery. Does anybody know how to get to this cemetery? I would appreciate directions!

HARDIN, WALES, ROGERS

My grandmother, Mary Ella HARDIN (1891-1963) of Ardmore, Limestone Co., AL, (also lived in Giles Co., TN) claimed to be part (quarter?)American Indian. The Cherokee and Chickasaw tribes originally claimed the part of AL that is now Limestone Co., so very likely the Native American connection in her family was Cherokee or Chickasaw. People in her lineage (all from Limestone Co.) who might have been Indian include:
(A) William Henry HARDIN (1861-1942), (B) Amanda V. WALES (1868-1894), (C) James F. HARDIN (1822-1863), (D) Rebecca ROGERS (1831-1910),(E) Sarah HARDIN (b. abt 1802) or her unknown spouse � Sarah is in 1850 Census for Limestone Co. with four children, ages 7-27 in same household. There is an S.J. Hardin (b 1802) buried in the Milhous Cemetery, Ardmore, AL, who may be the same person as this Sarah Hardin. ELDER, HARWELL, INGRAM

I am looking for descendants of David Colston ELDER, Margaret HARWELL ELDER and Lura Lee INGRAM ELDER. My grandfather, known to me until his death in 1964 as Frank Douglas Fisher, is actually Douglas Whitfield ELDER and is the first son of David and Margaret ELDER. He disappeared from Giles County in 1924. I know all about him from his marriage to my grandmother in 1929 until his death in 1964. I would so much like to find out why he changed his identity and tell my story of this wonderful man after his disappearance and change of identity in 1924. Does anyone know anything about him. HOWARD

I am searching for any children of Mary Magdalene HOWARD from Pulaski,Tennessee. My mother, Debra Jean HOWARD, was her born to Mary on August 23, 1959 in Giles County. We are searching for the other children that Mary Magdalene HOWARD had. We do not know if she was married at a later date or not. We were told that she died when she was in her 40's. Please notify me if you can locate any of my mother's brothers and sisters. The only person my mother could remember was a brother named William, but she was only three or four when she was seperated from the family so she can't be completely sure.

STEWART

Looking for Ancestors of William Alexander Stewart b. 24 Dec 1824, in TN. His wife was Martha Patsy Palmer Stewart. William had settled in the Stoddard Co. Missouri area in the 1830's with his family who was farming . Best leads take us to the Middle Tennesse area and possibly Giles Co. TN. He could have lived near the Alabama border. Hello, I am a descendent of James H. TAYLOR, b. 1817 TN. He married Lucy Ann PHILLIPS b. 1818 VA., in 1834, in Pulaski, Giles Co., TN. They had six children: Olivia A., David, Robert, Mary E., Zack and John J., all born in TN. This family is listed in the 1850 Giles Co., TN Census, but by the 1870 Census, they have moved to Henry Co., TN. I am trying to locate the parents of James and Lucy, which I believe were from in Giles Co., TN. Their son, John J. TAYLOR b. 1861 TN, d. 1929, married Indi Anna Walker b. 1852 IL, d. 1934, in 1879, in Massoc Co. IL. They had three children: Inis, Gussie, and James Franklin. >From IL this family moved to MO, and then on to OK. Does this family sound familiar to anyone?
