MCCLURE, MURRELL

Would like to correspond with other MCCLURE and MURRELL researchers.

Robert Carson MCCLURE, son of Robert MCCLURE, had a sister Mary Jane "Midge" MCCLURE who married Sam B. HARDIMAN (see HARDIMAN chart at this site). I beieve they had a brother William, W.D, or Bill MCCLURE.

Robert Carson MCCLURE married, about 1860, in Giles Co., to Jennie Mae MURRELL, daugher of Samuel Carson MURRELL.

Robert & Jennie's first child, Tallie, was born 1861 in Giles Co. They may have also lived in Lawrence Co. By 1863, they had moved to Wise Co., TX, & had Willie Mae (my grandmother), Robert Lee, Sam B., Earl Miller, Doc Miller, Margaret, & Nina.

In the cemetery where Robert & Jennie are buried, there is a R.M. MCCLURE, (1830-1910) whom I believe to be the same R.M. MCCLURE as found in Giles County. Does anyone have info on him?

In the 1930/40's, a trip was made back to Giles County to visit relatives. Who did they visit?

Associated names: HARDIMAN, SHELTON, LAWSON/DAWSON?, BYRD/BIRD?

It has been told that a son, Andrew Jackson HORTON, was baptised in Giles Co., TN. John Milton is supposed to have had many children and possibly more than one wife. He has not been found on a census and we are back to square one in filling in the blanks on him. It is entirely possible that he has descendants in the Giles County, TN area; if so, please contact me and will be glad to share information one generation back and generations forward through Andrew Jackson HORTON. HILLIS

Seeking descendants of my great-grandmother's birth family, most likely in Giles Co, TN. Her name was Florence Grace HILLIS (later adopted by Joshua Phelps family in Alabama). B. July 24, 1876 in Giles Co.; d. June 15, 1955 in Limestone Co., AL. Her father's name was John Mac HILLIS (recently discovered thanks to two "cousins" on Alabama genealogy list), b. July 1841. He was married twice, and my g-grandmother was a product of his first marriage. What I want desperately to know is: Who was his first wife (my g-grandmother's mother)? But more importantly, did my g-grandmother have a sister and a brother whose descendants are still possibly living in the Giles Co. area. Our family has always thought she had a sister and brother, and all were separated when her mother died when the children were small. This line descends from Andrew Jackson Hillis (John Mac Hillis's father), who is buried in Minor Hill, TN. If you know anything about this family, or have suggestions if you are familiar with Giles Co. hi

FRANCIS, FERGERSON (SP?), SHELDON, SHRADER, DEVASIER

I am interested in ANY information on the FRANCIS family - I do not have their arrival information into Giles county, or where they came from. There is a small village/site on the map listed as "Francis Hollow" - could this have been settled by same family? Earliest I have is James B FRANCIS m. Mary SHRADER: were parents of James Alexander FRANCIS (b.1844) m. Malinda A. SHELDON(b.1851), they, in turn were the parents of my great grandfather, Honor Edward FRANCIS (1886-1977) m. Mary Frances FERGERSON (sp?) (1887-1954). I have a very thorough history from James B. going forward, but nothing except these names from the earliest settlement period (from 1820 tax records?). My mother never knew her father, Clarence Ford FRANCIS, as he died in WWII - we never thought we would find anything on this family, as she was raised and adopted by her stepfather. Lynnville is their home town? This little bit of information found so far, has been very precious to her and us. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GIBSON, KNIGHTON, HIGGINS, HOLLAWELL, AND MIRANDY OR MIRANDA

My paternal grandfather was born in Giles County in 1880. His name was William Anderson KNIGHTON. According to family legend, his parent were killed when a tree fell on the wagon. Both parents and an infant or toddler were killed. He had siblings who were placed with relatives or fostered out. He was raised by a family named Anderson in Pulaski. He married Myrtle Emily MIRANDY OR MIRANDA who is listed on my father's birth cerfificate as being from Conway TN. Family legend says she was half Cherokee. She died when my father, Harry Ashley KNIGHTON was two years old. My husband's family is also from the Giles County area. His paternal grandfather, Eugene Wilson GIBSON came to Texas and married Edna Gladys HOLLAWELL whose parents were also from Giles County. Her mother's name was Mary Candice Freedonia Higgins.

CROWSON (CROUSON)

Looking for information regarding the family of Hightower and Julia Elizabeth CROWSON,who I believe were born in Giles County, TN. They had twelve children, and I am specifically interested in their 7th child, a son named James who was born in 1842. The three youngest children were born in Guntown, MS but the older ones may have been born in Giles County between 1832 and 1842.

Hightower was born c. 1802, the eldest son of William and Gilly Crowson. He is the grandson of William and Mary Thomas Crowson. This William was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and died when his children were young, around 1814, in Giles County. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone might have.

ABERNATHY

Searching for information for any African American/or person of color pertaining to ABERNATHY. The only information I have is as follows: William Abernathy was born 3/12/1902, died 7/1/1981) and was the son of Edward Abernathy (B) 3/20/1871(?) and Virginia [also known as Jennie] (Webster) Abernathy (B 1877(?) D 1937). William was married to Alberta (Wilson) who was (B 1902(?) and died in 1929(?). All were born in Tennessee, supposedly all in Nashville. There is a possibility that Edward is mixed with Native American, but my mother only goes by the rumors she has heard where he claimed to be "Blackfoot". Edward also worked for the railroad. He had two brothers William and Thomas (Tom) and a sister Lizzie.
