Harvell do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the army (or sailor in the navy) of the Confederate States, being a member of Col. Hollinquest's Regiment of Capt. Barret's 10th Mo. Battery, Artillery having originally enlisted from the State of Arkansas or a member of the crew of the ship called _____________; that I was honorably paroled from such service on or about the ____ day of May 1865. and did not desert the same that the proof of Service herewith submitted is all I have been able to obtain; that I am now, and for the past twelve months have been, a bona fide resident of this State; that I do not myself, nor does my wife nor do we both together, own property, real or personal, or both, or money or choses in action in excess of the value of $400.00 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel), nor has either of us conveyed title to any property to enable me to draw a pension, and that neither I nor my wife is in receipt of any income, annuity, pension or wages for any services, the emoluments of as office, in excess of $150.00 per year; that I am incapacitated to perform manual labor in any of the ordinary avocations of life (or am totally blind), and that such incapacity (or disability) is the result of being almost blind in one eye, and of age and disease, and that such disability is not the result of my own vicious habits still persisted in, so help me God. That he was a Confederate soldier. Landers citizens of Melbourne, in said County whom I certify to be creditable persons and worthy of confidence, who, being duly sworn, state that they are each, personally, well acquainted with applicant James H. Harvell and have known him since 1860 years, respectively. That he was a Confederate soldier. Belonging to Company some Missouri Battery-the 10th., I think. He joined at Pocahontas in 1862. I left there soon afterwards and never saw him again during the war. After the close of the war, said James H. Harvell came back here to Izard County.Regiment of __________ That as such soldier he served from _______ to _______ That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did not desert the same. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. Harvell of Gid Arkansas, who is an applicant for a pension under the Statutes of Arkansas. That at his request I have made an examination of his physical condition and find: State description and character of wound Nearly blind in left eye, has naso-pharyngal catarrh Physical condition and to what cause is his incapacity for manual labor attributable To the above named conditions & to general disability. He seems to be very feeble & prematurely old. and that said disability is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. Not due to vicious habits. Extent of disability I think about 3/4- as compared to that of a healthy able bodied man. Confederate Battery, is an applicant for ex-confederate pension under the lasw of Arkansas, and knowing nothing of any of his comrades, is trying to make proof of his service by documentary evidence. He was a federal prisoner, I think, at the close of the war; hence received no discharge or parole from his command. If you have any record that will tend to prove his service, kindly send me the necessary papers showing that fact, and greatly oblige. If above request is not explicit enough, in not giving sufficient information to enable you to examine the records, please outline to me the necessary points on which to base a request of this kind. On the last company roll on file, dated December 31, 1864, he was reported present. If he was a prisoner of war, the name of the prison in which confined, or if paroled, the place and date of parole, should be stated. Barrett's Company Regiment of Missouri Light Artillery That as such soldier he served from I saw him in the army with his command at Missionary Ridge, Ga., in November, 1863, or it was in 1863, and I think it was in November. I don't think he ever deserted. He seemed to be too well satisfied in the army. That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did not desert the same. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of old age. He is a weakly man besides, and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in. That to the best of our knowledge all property now owned by him and his wife, together, is not worth exceeding $400 (exclusive of household goods and wearing apparel). Harvell had served throughout the war as a southern soldier, while the rest of his father's family were Union people. That he was honorably discharged (paroled or released) from such service and did not desert the same. That he is now and has been for the past twelve months a bona fide resident of Arkansas. That he is incapacitated for manual labor by reason of_____________ and that such incapacity (or disability) is not the result of his own vicious habits still persisted in.
