Walter Claude Thomas (on his 21st birthday) married Mazie Aurora Appleton. Mazie's younger sister Etha (who later married Jim Cole) stands between them. On the porch are (l to r) Lum (Appleton), Dovie Abernathy (Claude's mother), Bob Abernathy (stepfather) and Charlie unknown. This picture was made at the Appleton homeplace in Appleton, Tennessee.

Walter Claude Thomas was born 26 January 1883 near Sugar Creek
and grew up in the Peach, Appleton area below Minor Hill.
